About ShreeOm Handicraft
Our Legacy in Classical Indian Music
My grandfather, the late Shree Chakori Prasad Jaiswal, born in Varanasi, hailed from a family deeply rooted in the tradition of making and playing classical Indian musical instruments.
He possessed extensive traditional knowledge of crafting and playing musical instruments. This expertise was passed down to my father and then to me, ensuring the continuation of our family’s musical legacy.
In 1948, my grandfather Shree Chakori Prasad Jaiswal established a small workshop in Varanasi named Ravi Classical Music Centre. This workshop quickly gained a reputation for producing high-quality North Indian musical instruments such as sitars, tanpuras, tanpuras, and more.
His son, my y father was both a skilled luthier and an accomplished musician. He had the honor of collaborating with some of the most distinguished names in Indian classical music, including Pandit Ravi Shankar, Pandit Nikhil Banerjee, and Ustad Vilayat Khan.
Varanasi has been home to many legendary musicians, such as:
- Pandit Ravi Shankar (sitar virtuoso)
- Ustad Bismillah Khan (shehnai maestro)
- Pandit Kishan Maharaj (tabla master)
- Pandit Gudai Maharaj (tabla virtuoso)
The rich musical heritage of Varanasi, combined with the expertise passed down through generations in our family, has solidified our reputation as highly-regarded luthiers. We continue to uphold and celebrate this tradition, crafting instruments that resonate with the timeless essence of Indian classical music.
