Tabla

Tabla is a versatile and popular percussion instrument from India. It is a pair of small drums, with the larger drum, known as the ‘bayan’ or ‘dagga’ and the smaller drum, called the ‘dayan’ or ‘tabla’. The dayan is made of wood and has a cylindrical shape, while the bayan is made of metal, brass or copper, and has a bowl-shaped design.Both drums are covered with animal skin, traditionally from goats, which is stretched over the top opening and held in place by a series of tuning straps.
